Guiding Principles

The Fotostiftung Schweiz is a foundation whose activities are devoted, at both national and international level, to the medium of photography; its history and its significance in our day. The foundation sees it as one of its most important tasks to build up a collection representative of photography in Switzerland, from its beginning to the present day. The works it collects are preserved and archived in accordance with modern conservational standards. The foundation is a non-profit organisation that aims to make its collection accessible to a wide public. It does this by organising exhibitions, issuing publications, uploading selected works onto the internet and making works available for reproduction in books and in other media. The foundation collaborates with other museums and archives towards securing and communicating Switzerland’s photographic heritage.
